În 1909 are loc premiera la Teatrul Național din București a piesei „Viforul” (parte a trilogiei semnate de Barbu Ștefănescu Delavrancea: „Apus de soare”, „Viforul” și „Luceafărul”). În distribuția sunt regăsite cele mai importante numele ale timpului: Petre Liciu joacă în rolul lui Ștefăniță, Ion Petrescu în Cărăbăț și Constantin I. Nottara în Luca Arbore. În timpul primei stagiunii piesa s-a jucat de 28 de ori. Scenograf a fost pictorul Costin Petrescu, iar costumele au fost comandate la casa Wintervitz din Viena, după cum aflăm de pe afișul spectacolului. O parte dintre costume, cu o vechime de peste o sută de ani și de o mare valoare istorico-documentară pentru istoria teatrului românesc, s-au păstrat în colecția Muzeului TNB.

Pentru rolul „Ștefăniță”, Petre Liciu a purtat o haină tip tunică și o vestă metalizată tip zale. HAINA trei sferturi tip tunică este din brocard mătase cu bumbac, de culoare ocru galben, cu fireturi și blană pe față, poale, mâneci. Mânecile sunt din lână de culoare galben cu pânză simplă, fără brocard. Șase fireturi ornamente ază piepții de o parte și de alta, terminați cu bumbi mari metalici ornamentali și alți șase bumbi mici pentru închidere. Croită pe talie. La ornamentele brocardului legăturile dintre fire sunt rupte. VESTA METALIZATĂ din fir de bumbac metalizat croșetat este o imitație zale. Deschisă la spate complet, se închide sus la gât și este ornamentată cu bandă de 4 cm din piele ornamentat cu bumbi mari metalici aurii.

Starea de conservare este parțial deteriorată: TUNICA are zone erodate la mâneci, pronunțate la umeri. La ornamentele brocardului legăturile dintre fire sunt rupte. Blana este deshidratată, cu pierderi semnificative de material. Se pot de asemenea observa zone cu intervenții anterioare. Căptușeala este degradată, cu sfâșieturi și intervenții anterioare de consolidar e pe zonele deteriorate. Firul textil metalizat din care VESTA este croșetată prezintă eroziuni și oxidări ale peliculei metalice mai pronunțate în zona de sub braț.

Există de asemenea zone cu intervenții anterioare de consolidare a unor sfâșieturi și pe spate pete de rugină de la elementele metalice de prindere. Ornamentul din piele din zona gâtului este degradat, pielea este deshidratată, casantă și prezintă pete de rugină datorate elementelor metalice adăugate. Căptușeala din zona gâtului este deterioarată.

The play „The Storm” (Romanian: „Viforul”) is part of a trilogy written by Barbu Ștefănescu Delavrancea. The other two plays in the trilogy are „Sunset” („Apus de soare”) and „The Morning Star” („Luceafărul”).

The play premiered at the National Theatre in Bucharest in 1909. The cast included some of the most important actors of the time: Petre Liciu as Ștefăniță, Ion Petrescu as Cărăbăț, and Constantin I. Nottara as Luca Arbore.

The play was a great success and was performed 28 times during its first season. The set design was by the painter Costin Petrescu, and the costumes were ordered from the Wintervitz company in Vienna.

Some of the costumes from the play have been preserved in the collection of the TNB Museum. They are over 100 years old and have a great historical and documentary value for the history of Romanian theater.

Costume for the role of Ștefăniță:

  • A three-quarter length tunic-type coat made of yellow-ochre silk brocade with cotton.
  • The coat has fur trim on the front, hem, and sleeves.
  • The sleeves are made of yellow wool with plain fabric, without brocade.
  • Six ornamental braids adorn the chest on both sides, ending with large ornamental metal buttons and six small buttons for closure.
  • The coat is fitted at the waist.
  • The brocade ornaments have broken ties between the threads.

Metalized vest:

  • Made of crocheted metalized cotton thread, imitating chainmail.
  • Completely open at the back, it closes at the neck and is decorated with a 4 cm band of leather decorated with large gold metal buttons.

Condition:

  • The tunic is partially deteriorated: there are eroded areas on the sleeves, pronounced at the shoulders.
  • The brocade ornaments have broken ties between the threads.
  • The fur is dehydrated, with significant loss of material.
  • Areas with previous interventions can also be observed.
  • The lining is degraded, with tears and previous consolidation interventions on the damaged areas.
  • The metallic textile thread from which the vest is crocheted shows erosions and oxidations of the metallic film, more pronounced in the underarm area.
  • There are also areas with previous consolidation interventions of some tears and rust spots on the back from the metal fastening elements.
  • The leather ornament in the neck area is degraded, the leather is dehydrated, brittle and has rust spots due to the added metal elements.
  • The lining in the neck area is deteriorated.
